You can start this process in three easy steps — and you can have it all completed within an hour! Are you ready to create your own presence on the interent? Right, then... let's get started!

Step 1: Your Domain Name...

Before you can create your own web presence, you need to, first, create a domain name. Your domain name is your identity on the internet. The domain name can be anything you want — as long as its something that people can easily identify with you, your organization, or business (Example: yourbusiness.com; yourname.net; yourorganization.org, etc.)

The significance of owning your own domain name is that you have the power to move this domain to any web hosting service of your choice. For example: If you, for some reason, become dissatisfied with the service or reliability of your current web hosting service, you can purchase a new account with another web host and "move" your domain (and site) to that new host at any time. (See what we mean by "empowerment"?)

Currently there are two, and only TWO, domain registration sites that we recommend:

Of the two, Network Solutions has been around the longest — literally since domain name registration became available to the public. Because of this, they can be considered the most reliable service. However, GoDaddy has proven that it, too, is a very reliable domain registration service and we feel confident in suggesting GoDaddy.com to register your domain name.

To create your domain name

1. Click on the domain registry site link of your choice
2. Search for the availability of your domain name choice. You may have to be creative if your first choice is unavailable.
3. Once you've chosen an available domain name, purchase it.
4. Save the email from the registry site. You'll need it later

Please note that both sites also offer web hosting as part of a package deal when registering a domain name. We advise against purchasing hosting from either site. We'll explain that further in the next step.

Step 2: Your Web Hosting Service...

When it comes to a company to host your website, there are three criterea that we look for: dependability, great customer service, low price. There are a lot of low-cost web hosting companies to choose from; but when it comes to meeting the high standards we insist on, one hosting company stands out over the rest.

Currently, 90% of our customers have their sites hosted on HostGator.com. Their customer service is unsurpassed and their hosting packages are some of the best you can find for the price. Most customers opt for the Hatchling Plan as it best suits their needs for a single domain.

To purchase your web hosting service, click on the HostGator link above, purchase the Hatchling Plan (single domain), and save the email you receive from HostGator for future use.

The reasons we recommend this hosting service over the services offered by either Network Solutions or GoDaddy are based upon price and available features. The Network Solutions plan is far more expensive and offers very little in the way of added features. GoDaddy, on the other hand, offers reasonably-priced hosting — however, they, too, have limitations on their packages and managing your hosting account with GoDaddy can be somewhat difficult to do. We think simpler is better, and that's why we don't recommend hosting with them.

Step 3: Your Website Design...

Now that you have a domain and a host to put your website on, it's time to consider your website, itself. You have some choices here, too. You can either:

1. Design the site yourself
2. Purchase a pre-made HTML template and edit it
3. Find a web designer and hire him/her to create your site
4. Have Cellar Studio Designs take care of the whole design and implementation process — including pointing your domain name to your web host
